A few flashes go off, and Lana looks up.
“Don’t panic, we’ll go this way.” Reece leads us to a security door where a guard lets us through. “We thought there’d be some interest in you arriving, so we arranged a bit more privacy.”
“Thank you,” I say.
“Let’s get out of here.”
The doors opens, and we walk out and into the sunshine.
We’re soon travelling on the freeway.
It’s not until that happens that I wish I was in the other car with my girls. They get to experience all of this for the first time—I’ve spent the last couple of years in and out of LA.
But once we’re settled, I’ll be able to give them the tour.
There’s so much to look at, and I want my girls to be able to experience everything life has to offer. If this all pays off, we’ll see the world together.
I can’t wait.

I’m sitting in a car with Josh Carter.
Alex’s star might be on the rise, and there are a ton of women who would kill to be in my shoes, but to me, he’s the man I love and who I wouldn’t trade anything for.
Yet here I am with Josh Carter—a man whose movies I’ve watched and whose abs I’ve drooled over. Especially in that movie he made with Reece Evans. The pair of them are just … I fan myself.
“You okay?” he asks. “I can turn the air-con on.”
I bite down a laugh. “I’m fine. Just relieved to be out of that plane.”
“Those long-haul flights sure suck the life out of you.”
“They really do.”
Small voices come from the back seat. It makes me smile. My biggest worry was about how Casey would cope with everything, but from the way she’s telling Amelia all about our flight, I think she’s fine so far.
“Amelia’s been looking forward to you coming. She loves younger kids, and her sister’s only a few months old so she can’t play much yet. Casey’s going to get a lot of attention,” Josh says.
I laugh. “I think she can handle that. It’ll help take her mind off the move.”
“Stressful?” He glances at me.
“Not once we made the decision, but it’s a big change for Casey. She’s been in the same day care since she was four months old. It’s going to be nice to get more time with her.”
Josh changes gear. “I bet. Delaney was the same. Amelia goes to school, but she gets a lot more time with her mother here than she used to back home. Being a working parent is tough.”
I bite my bottom lip and look out the window. We’re in a suburban area now, and the houses are all so beautiful—and a far cry from my tiny little place back home. They seem to grow bigger the farther we go too. I’d hate to think what it costs to live here.
The chatter in the back seat continues. I’m not sure what a nearly eight-year-old and a three-year-old have in common, but both children seem to be taking part in the conversation.
“We’re nearly home,” Amelia says.
“Home?” Casey’s voice gives me pangs. I exchange an amused glance with Josh. He’s been so kind, it’s easy to forget just how famous he is.
“Yes. And Mummy set up a room for you, but if you want to, you can sleep in my room, Casey.”
