“Tell me that you promise.”

“I am a man of my word.”

“Say it.”

I drew back to look at him and didn’t realize until that moment how much I missed that deep, dark gaze.

“I promise, goddess.”

Our lips crashed, we kissed fervently, and he carried me off. After a soaking warm bath, I spent that night cuddling beside him. I fell asleep and woke up to cold sheets, and as soon as I moved, his shadow covered me again, slipping underneath the covers behind me.

That was three months ago. Since then, I’d watched Dominic rise to become the don of the Lucas Cosa Nostra.

It was official. I pretended to stay out of his way but was too curious to remain completely out of the loop.

He would keep his position as an advisor at Manhattan Excellence & Arts University, as his cover to the outside world.

In the underworld, he was the most feared—and revered—man alive. Word had spread of his father’s demise, but also Dominic’s revenge.

Murdering Antonio Cappalli, Rolando Massimo, and Riccardo Niccolò in a single night crippled two empires at once.

Most of their men had been killed; the ones who dared to fight back. The others were taken into captivity, and their compounds, secrets, and money had all been taken by the Lucas Cosa Nostra.

Dominic was more powerful than he was when Dameon was alive, and while that should’ve been a great thing, I managed to keep him grounded so that the darkness that shifted inside him didn’t make him think he was untouchable.

That way of thinking—the pompous, cocky kind—could very well make him fall prey to a betrayal or mutiny, and he could meet a demise much like his father.

“What’s on your mind, goddess?”

I turned from the window, smiled, and rubbed my belly. “You, and how much I love you.”

“Hmmmm,” he hummed, strolling over to me. His hands wrapped around my body, and he dropped a kiss on my nose.

“What about me?”

“I can’t wait to be Mrs. Dominic Lucas.”

He kissed my lips, then peppered kisses on my face. “Two weeks, and I’m all yours.”

I laughed. “You’re already mine.” I turned my back and wiggled from his embrace. “Unless…you don’t want to be, then I guess I’ll have to find someone who wants me,” I teased, walking away.

“Eek!” I yelped as he snatched me back, flat against his body.

“You must have a death wish for some poor fella. Is that it, Penelope?”

I faced him, and he gave me a deep kiss, sucking my tongue into his mouth.

“No,” I whispered against his lips. “All I want is you.”
