I head out to the garage, shake my head, and laugh. The car’s overflowing, but I wouldn’t expect anything less. Pippa wants everything to be perfect.

Her parents and Lucas arrive tomorrow, and she likes to be prepared.

Lucas and I called a permanent truce. I’ve been so angry with him for so many years, but after he shared his story, I saw another side that made me hurt for him.

He went to the police and also tracked down my mother’s current lover, who turned out to have a similar story. It took some persuading as he was still under her spell, but he cracked when Lucas told him their history. The legal process is long with investigations ongoing, but Mum’s in a lot of trouble.

I don’t miss her. It took time, but Pippa’s family forgave me and they’re my family—not just because I’m married to Pippa. I’ll miss Dad for the rest of my life, but Pippa’s father has stepped in as more than a father-in-law. He’s been there for me while we’ve worked through the past and moved on.

And Pippa?

Pippa’s the best thing that ever happened to me. I’ll never take her for granted after throwing away what we had once. She’s patient, kind, and loves me and Willow with everything she has.

By the time I’ve put all the food away and brought everything in, Pippa greets me at the kitchen door.

“She asleep?”

Pippa nods. “Out like a light.”

She slides her arms around my neck and gives me a tender kiss.

“Should we … be taking advantage of this moment?”

Her face lights up. “Definitely.”

“I love you.” I lean forward and bury my face in her hair. “Only you, Pippa. Only ever you.”
