And I wouldn’t go back even if I could.

AUGUST

I swept my mate across the dance floor. Her silky white dress flowed with every step, but my hold on the back of the billowing fabric remained steady. The woman was going to trip if I let it go, and the last thing I wanted was an injured wife.

Especially when we were about to go on our honeymoon.

Two weeks in paradise with my female would be a dream.

“What do you want to do first when we get to the beach house?” she asked me mentally, her voice playful.

She’d been smiling all day.

Hell, she’d been smiling all year. We both had. Having the bond sealed steadied us both in ways we hadn’t realized we needed.

“Get you in one of those little bikinis.” I brushed my hand over her ass.

She laughed. “Sounds like fun. I think we’ll go through heat again in a few days.”

Our heats were short, since we’d bonded. Only two days or so, but we enjoyed every damn minute of them.

There was no more suffering.

No more desperation.

Just pure pleasure.

And fun; my Fireball made everything fun.

My eyes caught on a couple in the corner of the room, and interest held my gaze there as we continued moving. Elodie made me practice so much before the ceremony, I could do the dance in my sleep.

With her in my arms, I’d enjoy it, too.

She followed my attention, and laughed again, softly, when she saw what I saw.

Jasper sitting in the corner, his arms folded and his expression stony.

Miranda sitting next to him, chatting, with a flirty smile on her face.

“She really wants to be mated to a dragon.” There was humor in Elodie’s voice. “Can you imagine how disappointed she’d be if a bond actually ignited, and she realized how much her mate didn’t want to be tied down? And then to suffer through heat…”

I chuckled. “Jas won’t even look at her. No way in hell is heat going to ignite between them.”

“Let’s hope not.” She leaned into my arms. “How long do you think we have to stay here?”

“Your mom stopped crying, so I think we’re good to sneak out whenever.”

Elodie flashed me a mischievous smile, then caught my hand and tugged me through the crowd.

Someone called out behind us, but we were already gone.

We were a team, after all.
