“Shit. All proper. I’ll meet you there.”
Good. Cassie didn’t like speaking whereas driving and he or she had sufficient to distract her because it was.
Mike.
Struck by a bullet.
What had occurred? She sped to the hospital like a demon.
She rolled into the ER car parking zone on two wheels.
Her abdomen rolled with nausea.
Preserve calm.
She ran via the double doorways and straight to the emergency counter.
“I’m right here to see Mike Armstrong. The firefighter that was shot.”
“You and each different reporter, honey. Get in line.”
“What?” Horrified, Cassie stared on the girl on the opposite aspect of the desk.
“Are you household?”
“Uh, no. I—”
“Then don’t waste my time.”
Anger flushed her face. “Now, see right here.”
“Cassie?” She turned to the sound of a person’s voice.
Jared.
Chilly dread washed over her. Seeing Jared’s fearful expression all of the sudden made every part actual. She fell into his arduous chest and his arms clasped round her. She couldn’t crumble now. She needed to be sturdy, regardless of the information could be.
Oh God. Please let him stay.
Tears crammed her eyes and spilled down her cheeks. She couldn’t cease them. The floodgates had burst. Her shoulders began to shake.
“There, now. Mike can be okay,” Jared rumbled in a low voice. Sturdy arms rubbed her again, ringing out the pent-up rigidity. The final time she’d cried, Mike had held her. Mike had been the one to assuage her.
Together with her eyes closed, she stepped again and inhaled, filling her lungs. The potent scent of medication crammed the hall. She dug in her pocket for a tissue. Discovering none, she swiped her cheeks with the again of her hand.
“Do they know something? Is it unhealthy?”
“Mike’s been in harder spots than this.” A person she didn’t know stepped beside her. A slight smile lifted the corners of his mouth. “The bullet was only a scratch.”
“Then he was shot?” Her eyes flew open with renewed terror.
“He’s okay,” Jared assured her.
“Inform me what occurred.”
“Mike had on his helmet. Like Cooper, right here, mentioned. It’s only a scratch. We’re ready on the physician now. I promise. He’ll be proper as rain.”
“Hello. I’m Cooper. Why don’t you come on over right here with us?” the younger man mentioned, guiding her. “We’re all ready.”
